L’Étape Greece: a legendary race in Sparta
L’Étape Series by Tour de France has one clear ambition: to give amateur riders the chance to experience the magic of the Tour de France in iconic destinations. And few places embody history and legend quite like Sparta.
This Saturday, for the 4th edition of L’Étape Greece presented by Škoda, 800 riders immersed themselves in both Spartan heritage and Tour de France prestige, tackling a breathtaking route stretching from mountains to sea, in the Peloponnese.
A race rooted in ancient history
The event started and finished in Sparta, the legendary city renowned for its uncompromising spirit: never retreat, never surrender. A mindset that perfectly echoed throughout the peloton, as riders pushed their limits and rose to the challenge.
The course also led participants through Mystras, home to a stunning archaeological site, an evocative journey through time set against the backdrop of the race’s most demanding climb.
From mountains to the sea
Dès le départ, les sommets enneigés se dessinaient à l’horizon, se rapprochant au fil de l’ascension vers Mystras.
Puis, entre oliviers et orangers, sur de larges routes roulantes, les coureurs ont pris la direction de la mer et du golfe de Laconie. Sur plusieurs kilomètres, entre Gytheio et Trinisa, ils ont pu profiter de paysages exceptionnels, un mélange inoubliable d’effort et de beauté.
