More than 1,700 riders at the inaugural L'Étape Serra Negra by Tour de France presented by Nu Bank
Brazil once again confirmed its outstanding passion for cycling as more than 1,700 participants gathered in Serra Negra, São Paulo State, for the second Brazilian event of the season and the very first edition of L'Étape Serra Negra by Tour de France.
A spectacular mountain setting in the heart of São Paulo State
Nestled in the mountains of southeastern Brazil, Serra Negra offered a stunning backdrop for riders taking on the challenge of L'Étape. Known for its rolling climbs, winding roads and lush landscapes, the region provided the perfect terrain to experience the spirit of the Tour de France. Throughout the course, participants discovered a demanding but rewarding route, combining long ascents, technical descents and breathtaking views over one of Brazil’s most iconic mountain destinations.
A weekend of passion and celebration
The event brought together cyclists of all levels in a festive and welcoming atmosphere. Families, local residents and cycling fans lined the roads to cheer on the riders, creating a vibrant atmosphere across the entire weekend. Beyond the sporting challenge, this first edition highlighted once again the strong connection between Brazil and the Tour de France experience, reinforcing the success of the L'Étape by Tour de France series in the country.
A thrilling men’s race decided by a second
The men’s race delivered an outstanding showdown. After spending most of the 160-kilometre course together in the leading breakaway, Rafael Pinheiro and Renan Gabriel do Couto Martins engaged in a dramatic duel all the way to the finish. In a spectacular sprint finale, victory was decided by just one second. Rafael Pinheiro crossed the line in 2:40:14, narrowly ahead of Renan Gabriel do Couto Martins in 2:40:15, sealing one of the most exciting finishes of the season.
A strong all-Brazilian podium in the women’s race
In the women’s event, Marianna Louise Toledo Machado delivered a dominant performance to take victory in 2:57:54, mastering the demanding course from start to finish. She finished just 15 seconds ahead of Erika Soares Correa, while Alessandra Fornel completed an all-Brazilian podium in 2:58:54. The results highlighted both the depth and the growing level of women’s cycling in Brazil.
