L’Étape Mondovì: a unique Tour de France cycling experience in Italy for 2,500 riders
On Sunday 20 September, L’Étape Mondovì by Tour de France brought the Tour de France experience to Italy, gathering 2,500 cyclists in the heart of Piedmont. Combining spectacular Italian scenery, challenging routes and the unique atmosphere of the world’s greatest cycling race, L’Étape Mondovì offered amateur cyclists one of the most distinctive cycling experiences in Italy, under a perfectly clear sky.
Experience the Tour de France in Italy
From the early morning, the 2,500 participants experienced the unique atmosphere and iconic codes of the Tour de France in the heart of one of Italy’s renowned cycling regions.
Starting from Mondovì, in Piedmont, riders could choose between two formats: the challenging Granfondo, with 110.6 km and 2,201 m of elevation gain, and the more accessible Cicloturistica – Pedalata Alpi del Mare, with 60.3 km and 1,104 m of elevation gain.
Combining sporting challenge, Italian cycling culture and the Tour de France atmosphere, L’Étape Mondovì offered a unique opportunity for amateur cyclists to live the Tour de France experience in Italy.
Discover Piedmont by bike on a spectacular Italian Granfondo
The routes showcased some of the most beautiful landscapes of southern Piedmont, crossing the Monregalese, Alta Langa and Valle Corsaglia.
Vineyards, hazelnut groves, traditional Italian villages and panoramic climbs accompanied the cyclists throughout the day, with the spectacular passage in front of the Santuario Regina Montis Regalis in Vicoforte among the highlights.
The final kilometres brought the riders back towards Mondovì for a memorable uphill finish in Piazza Maggiore, in the historic heart of the city.
From L’Étape Mondovì to L’Étape du Tour de France 2027
The Granfondo also delivered an exciting battle at the front. Alberto Nardin took the men’s victory, ahead of Danilo Celano and Ivan Martinelli, while Martina Cavallo claimed the women’s victory, ahead of Annalisa Prato and Mara Manfredi.
As Top 3 finishers, all six riders qualified for the L’Étape Championship Program, giving them the opportunity to compete against the best riders of the L’Étape Series at L’Étape du Tour de France 2027.
The connection with the Tour de France will also continue for the entire peloton: through the L’Étape Reward Program, all participants in L’Étape Mondovì will receive priority access to register for L’Étape du Tour de France 2027 before registration opens to the general public. A unique opportunity to continue their journey from one of Italy’s major cycling events to the roads of the Tour de France.
